Surgeries:

Brain Biopsy (Stereotactic)

Before surgery a MRI brain scan is performed with contrast and special sticky dots called fiducials are applied to the scalp to assist with intraoperative navigation. Under general anaesthesia a small amount of hair is shaved and a small hole drilled in the skull. Using the Stealth navigation system a small probe is passed to the intracranial target and some cells are collected for pathology. The wound is then closed and the patient woken up. The patient can usually be discharged the following day and the results discussed with the patient in the clinic in 3 days.
